nature narrations

I have a new found respect for the folks who narrate nature videos.
It's difficult. Well, it's difficult to not to sound like a complete idiot.
I know this; I recently made my own nature film, and I sound like a babbling idiot.
There is a bee hive behind my studio in Signal Hill.

photo shoot as an engaged couple

Heather and I had the privilege to shoot with Samuel Lippke this weekend. We headed down to Fallbrook to the Simon Estate, laced up our boots, fastened our suspenders and ran around like two young lovers from a different era. Conditions were perfect - the grasses were green, the wildflowers in bloom, the sky was dramatic and glorious. We wanted to shatter the mold of a typical engagement shoot; I think it was a success. Here are few samples that Samuel sent over:

I am a lucky man.

Event on Friday

I've given up on trying to make really nice flyers - I kind of like dumb looking flyers better now. And then, there is something inside of me that really hates producing crappy looking stuff, but then again, it's kinda cool but not in anti-cool sort of way but a prefixatationalized anti-anti-cool experimentation in aesthetics or something blahblahblah.

Friday night good things will occur, come and participate.

phagocytosis

Does anyone else remember what phagocytosis is? It's one of those words that stuck out to me when I was in Biology in 9th grade. I think the word stuck out to a lot of 15 year old boys when we heard that the teacher say "phag" in class. (like: "did you guys hear that? did he just say fag? haha, chuckle, chuckle, whisper, whisper). I can vividly remember saying "Holy Phagocytosis" at one point. Of course, we also used the term to bring the word "fag" to a higher level. Such as: "That guy is so gay, yeah, he's like a phagocytosis." Oh, to be 15 again....

When I was in the 12th grade I used the term to identify the peculiar relationship between older gay dudes and younger gay dudes. At my high school, Orange County High School of the Arts, there were quite a few homosexual lads. They usually came out of the closet around 9th or 10th grade due to an "experience" with an upper classmen (or an older gay dude). The older gay dudes, in essence, were displaying an act of relational phagocytosis, where they would prey upon the younger, curious and confused, almost gay dudes. That always bummed me out: I see this young kid who just broke up with his girlfriend because he needed to "find" himself, which led to experimentation (more confusion), and ultimately chooses a trajectory for the rest of his life at the age of 15 or 16 (and sometimes way younger than that). Craziness.

All that to say: I saw this stain on the ground today (above) as I was getting into my car and it reminded me of phagocytosis. Dictionary.com says:
the ingestion of a smaller cell or cell fragment, a microorganism, or foreign particles by means of the local infolding of a cell's membrane and the protrusion of its cytoplasm around the fold until the material has been surrounded and engulfed by closure of the membrane and formation of a vacuole: characteristic of amebas and some types of white blood cells.

uh-huh.

Other possible applications for this word could be: Cultural phagocytosis, democratic
phagocytosis, religious phagocytosis, western phagocytosis, social group phagocytosis, sexual phagocytosis, fast food phagocytosis, artistic phagocytosis, corporate phagocytosis......etc.....etc......

Apply the implications of these applications; and see what happens!

Reconnaissance Mission: The Van

The last 36 hours
Thursday 5pm - 11pm: Drive to Sacramento Sleep in Motel 6: gross
Friday morning 7am: Drive to Red Bluff (awesome town, see pics)

9am: Retrieve vehicle from the Red Bluff Police Department, Drive to Red Bluff DMV, Bob's repair shop to change oil/check engine before 500 mile drive.
12:30pm: Drive south on I5 for 9 1/2 hours.

10pm: Home with my beautiful blue van.

Following the officer to the Red Bluff impound yard.

While the van was being worked on at the local auto repair shop in Red Bluff, Evan and I went on a walk. This is what we saw:
my favorite part was the artwork in the auto shop bathroom.

Here are the sites to be seen while driving south on the 5 during the middle of the day in a 1986 Chevy G30 High Cube Van.

a post before a little journey

Brother and I are heading up to Red Bluff, CA to pick up my new van.
Which, I recently just found out is an old SWAT van - and significantly adds to the kickingass-ness of this vehicle.
We're driving to Sacramento tonight and finishing the rest of our journey in the morning. Then tomorrow, I will drive my big blue bad-ass wagon back down the 5 for a grueling 10+ hours.
Here's another view of that bad boy:

Also, I thought I'd snag a few photos from Susan's Blog of some more pool skating action.
We got some really great photos from that weekend, i'll post some links soon.

Heather says I have "T-rex" arms when I skate.

I get much higher on roller skates. Next time I skate it, I'll hopefully push out over the coping, maybe a handplant or something. I can't wait to go back and repair/repaint that pool.
