I've been reviewing old writings and drawings in my sketchbooks. Man, I'm glad I have these. I've noticed how much I've tightened up with my art making and writing.
Not tightened up in the sense of tuning up, but more like a sense of inflexibility. I've become rigid; well, I'm moving in the direction of rigidity.
It reminds me of surfers who only try and do one trick or one kind of move. It's like their whole point of being on the wave is to get enough speed to do one aerial maneuver or cut back or something.
I can't stand that! What a waste of a wave.
And you'll notice, as I have, that when this type of surfer misses the mark, misses the trick, they get so pissed off. Rigidity - not good.
Enjoy the ride, enjoy the wave, enjoy the joy of joy.
Yeah, enjoy joy!!!!!
Quit trying to explain your joy away! (I am now talking myself)
Here's a poem I found that I think I wrote probably around September '07: (edited, and added punctuation)
I'm so serious when I take myself seriously.
However, I find it harder to give myself seriously.
Serious giving sometimes misses the lighthearted generosity.
Like toasting a marshmallow golden brown then giving it away.
It's a marshmallow!
Lighten up!
If you must take yourself seriously,
Remember to give yourself playfully,
Exuberantly,
Generously.
Golden Brown Generosity.
