I've been reviewing old writings and drawings in my sketchbooks. Man, I'm glad I have these. I've noticed how much I've tightened up with my art making and writing.
Not tightened up in the sense of tuning up, but more like a sense of inflexibility. I've become rigid; well, I'm moving in the direction of rigidity.
It reminds me of surfers who only try and do one trick or one kind of move. It's like their whole point of being on the wave is to get enough speed to do one aerial maneuver or cut back or something.
I can't stand that! What a waste of a wave.
And you'll notice, as I have, that when this type of surfer misses the mark, misses the trick, they get so pissed off. Rigidity - not good.
Enjoy the ride, enjoy the wave, enjoy the joy of joy.
Yeah, enjoy joy!!!!!
Quit trying to explain your joy away! (I am now talking myself)
Here's a poem I found that I think I wrote probably around September '07: (edited, and added punctuation)
I'm so serious when I take myself seriously.
However, I find it harder to give myself seriously.
Serious giving sometimes misses the lighthearted generosity.
Like toasting a marshmallow golden brown then giving it away.
It's a marshmallow!
Lighten up!
If you must take yourself seriously,
Remember to give yourself playfully,
Exuberantly,
Generously.
Golden Brown Generosity.

TONIGHT!

This is what we'll be doing tonight.
My dear and long time friend (12 years now) Robert Lee, recently opened an amazing studio in Signal Chill, Long Beach.
Heather and I will be there and we're gonna dance, dance, dance.
Most likely this event will break into one of the best freestyle hip hop dance off you'll ever see.

recent pieces of awesome
A recent body of ideas that I've translated into paintings: Impossible Architecture.
I've decided to take advantage of working in 2D and create structures that I can't make in 3D
Here's 2 examples below. Each panel is 16" x 20"

Also from a recent series I worked around ideas of Church structures.
Megachurch, below. Each panel is 16" x 20"

my studio
left handed
I'm left handed.
Did you know that?
Anyways, I've grown up using the computer mouse with my right hand, so in order to increase my dexterity of mouse operating techniques, I have decided to start mousing with my left hand.
I switched the clicker thingy around and I've been using my left hand for mousing for about 2 hours now.
So far so good.
There have been a few times that I have reached over with my right hand only to find that there was no mouse there.
I hope this will improve my overall coordination and ambidextrous-ness.
yeayah.

(thought of the morning) I am so sick of...
I am so sick of all those damn wedding websites that talk about suggestions for the groom.
No wonder men have such a bad rap. These sites that are supposed to be there to support men in preparing for the wedding and for marriage, are supporting men in furthering their stupidity, sexual fantasies, independence, and just bleghhhhh.....ahhhhhh.....!!!
One site, groom411.com says, "Don’t forget to fill out change of address forms. You wouldn’t want to miss a single issue of Playboy." Are you kidding me?
Even better, "In addition, give the officiant’s fee to best man. Preferably in check form. Especially if you are giving your groomsmen’s pep talk at a strip joint."
And finally, "Don’t go to sleep without officially sanctioning the wedding. And satisfying your new wife. But, if you only get one out of two done, at least your married. Where else can she go?"
This really bugs me. How are we ever supposed to change the perception of men if men keep perpetuating these ideas themselves? It's like a women complaining about being objectified but continuing to wear immodest clothing.
Furthermore, why do (almost) all the sitcoms on TV circulate around a central male figure that is a complete idiot. To name a few - Tim Taylor (this whole sitcom was based on a tool guy who couldn't get a darn thing right), Full House (three adult male idiots trying to run a house full of young women), Raymond (he's an idiot, so is his brother, and his dad).
7th Heaven, might've been the exclusion - however as soon as Lucy and Mary got older and better looking there boyfriends and husbands were idiots too.
Homer Simpson, Peter from the Family Guy, Hank Hill.
Why are people, including myself at times, so attracted to a chubby Dad who can't get anything right?
If they made a movie about a chubby mom who couldn't get anything right there would be a public outcry! "The Audacity," they would say, "Don't you know how hard mothers work?"
The facts are:
Some women/mothers work hard, some are lazy whiners.
Some men/fathers work hard, some are lazy whiners.
Whatever the facts may be, I'm tired of portraying and perpetuating the glass half empty characters in life.
Why are people so attracted to mediocrity? My, off the top of my head, guess is, that people do not see or recognize that there are more options in life than mediocrity.
There are more options!!!!!! There are innumerable possibilities!!!
Love your wife, love your life.

Recent findings
Heather and I drove up to San Luis Obispo this past Saturday to retrieve some wine barrels. We're going to do some decorations involving wine barrels at our wedding. That was a fun little trip. The land on either side of the 101 freeway is gorgeous right now. If anyone has the time and gas money, I would definitely suggest taking a day trip up the 101.
We will be selling these wine barrels after the wedding. If you're interested, please let me know and I'll reserve 1 or more for you. $50 for a full barrel, $20 for a half --That's a great deal!

In other news, the Home Depot by my work continues to sell oops paint in fantastic colors
That greenish blue color on the right - I have about 4 gallons of that color now. Folks must really like that color on the paint chip, but when they see it in gallon form must get scared. You'd have to be a fairly avant-garde person to pick that color for the trim on your house.

Finally, has anyone else noticed an abundance of moths lately? I guess they're in season?

oops paint
You know, sometimes I get frustrated with the customer service at Home Depot.
I think to myself, "Gee whiz, where do they find these idiots?"
There are, however, some plus sides to this idiocracy: "oops paint"
And the wonderful thing is, they keep making mistakes with the colors I like!
Yes!!!
Score: Home Depot - 0, Eric Trine - 7
