What a great weekend

Seriously, this past weekend was awesome.
Unfortunately, I have no photo-documentation of any of the slurry of awesome events and experiences that took place. Nor do I have the energy to accurately and effectively convey the awesomeness of which I was in and around and upon.
Highlights:
- Heather and I getting the keys to our place - and then making color-coded copies.
- A wonderful installation on the Davidson family lawn on Saturday night - for which I have no photos (stupid, stupid, stupid!!!)
- Cheap wine tasting/BBQ at my parents house.
- Improv school yard B-Ball game with a couple of other fellows - all wearing slip-ons, constricting jeans, and sweating budweiser, 9 foot hoop with no net.
- Conversations between Heather and I regarding how many animal busts we can mount onto our walls. (see photo above) (reference only, we don't own those....yet)
It was a good weekend.

House hunting (is over)
Heather and I got a place!!!
We put a deposit down last night and I'm moving in June 15th.
Woop woop.
Super huge place in Belmont Shore/Heights area.
Dang huge place.
With a garage (studio space!!!)
We are really looking forward to the process of hand picking our furniture.
And we are really looking forward to the process of hand building our furniture!!!
I'm glad I'm marrying a beautiful girl who knows how to use power tools and a table saw!!!
Yow zah

Ride a horse to school
I've been thinking about how I would be living my life pre-automobile lately.
How long would it take me to get to work if I had to ride a horse?
What kind of work would I be doing?
I heard about a high schooler in Tennessee who has been riding his horse to school lately.
So rad!
But, he got in trouble because he couldn't park his horse on campus.

...ahem
WE BUILT THIS CITY
WHILE LISTENING TO
ROCK AND ROLL,
IN OUR HEADPHONES.
WE ALL LISTENED
TO THE SAME SONG THOUGH.
IT WAS AWESOME.
IN A SENSE, WE BUILT
THIS CITY WITH A BEAT,
A COMMON BEAT;
BEATING AWAY AT OUR
SENSITIVE EAR TISSUE,
SO THAT ONE DAY WE WILL
WAKE AND REMEMBER THAT
WE BUILT THIS CITY ON
A BEAT,
A SPECIFIC BEAT;
BUT WE NO LONGER
REMEMBER WHAT THAT
BEAT IS.

IT BEAT AWAY AS
WE BUILT AWAY.
AND NEITHER
THIS BEAT OR THIS
CITY REMAIN.
WHAT NOW?
WELL, WE SEE
WHAT WE SEE.
E TRINE.

house hunting
House hunting is fun, hard, frustrating, exciting, etc...
The biggest bummer is when Heather and I find a totally radical place and it's way over our budget.
How rad is this place in the picture below?
The space on the top floor on the right has that big circular balcony/patio thingy! So cool.
1st St. near Newport Ave in the Bluff Heights area of Long Beach.

habits
I have a habit of sending the Hobosoul brothers links that relate to the stuff that they are doing these days. I do this because I like how they write; they are better story tellers than I (in written form)
Vern just wrote up this little "zinger" about an artist that I found the other day.
Another "zinger".
And a little "diddy" about his wife and frequent Bro Futurist artist/collaborator. (sister futurist)

politricks
I'm not one to get caught up in the fury of all the politics of the upcoming election. And I'm not one to vocally express my opinion one way or the other.
However, after seeing the video posted below, I can firmly say that if you vote for Senator McCain, I will be very bummed out.
In my opinion, even if you're a hard-lined, committed Republican, there is no way that you could possibly arrive at the conclusion that voting for Senator McCain would be a good idea for this country.
This video is not so much funny as it is sad.

Score!
Some sign company in Santa Ana posted in the Free section a bunch of of silkscreens.
They had a room full of about 250 of them.
I went by and got as many as I could fit in my truck (33).
Stoked! That saves me a lot of money!
Thanks Craigslist.
Thanks Davidsons Signs of Santa Ana!

Power Shower
Power Shower: When one wakes up late for work and has to take a shower as fast as possible.
Used in a sentence: "Oh Shit! I'm late for work! Dangit, I smell.....dang damn.........ugh....I need to take a shower......a Power Shower!"
This is when the Shampoo/Body Wash combo comes in real handy.

Death
Robert Rauschenberg died yesterday.
He was 82.
He was a dang good artist.
He's the kind of artist that makes work that is hard for me to look at. It's hard because it resonates with some place deep in me; it reverberates against my innards.
I believe that the thoughts and mechanisms that motivate and drive a lot of where I move from have been similar to those mechanisms in Rauschenberg. That may be a lofty statement, and I'm not comparing my art making skills to his - which is a conversation about the end product, the artwork. I'm more speaking to the inner artworkings that move an idea to the tangible realm.
Here's a quote from Rauschenberg in the NY Times article. Dang.
"I usually work in a direction until I know how to do it, then I stop,” he said in an interview in the giant studio on Captiva in 2000. “At the time that I am bored or understand — I use those words interchangeably — another appetite has formed. A lot of people try to think up ideas. I’m not one. I’d rather accept the irresistible possibilities of what I can’t ignore.”

He added: “Anything you do will be an abuse of somebody else’s aesthetics. I think you’re born an artist or not. I couldn’t have learned it. And I hope I never do because knowing more only encourages your limitations.”

Video Studio Visit (2)
Two notes:
1. That is not my McDonalds bag on the floor of the warehouse.
2. I am not drunk (maybe I'm just way too sober?)
preview
Killer preview of a show that I'm in that's opening tomorrow night.
For some reason my pieces are very difficult to photograph.
Unfortunately, I can't make the opening because my sister is graduating from college down in San Diego.
Looks like a radical show and I'm honored to be in it. I'm kinda intimidated by how good all the other work is.

Bro Futurists
Bro Futurists is the title for an (art) team that I captain.
We run around and do stuff.
It's pretty loose these days; everyone has so much going on, always.
We make stuff when we can, and try and organize events here and there.
I've been increasingly interested and drawn to ideas and events that have an impact on a community that wouldn't normally attend an art exhibition, fashion show, or music thingy.
Camping trips, events in public parks, art for shelter, and the burrito project are the things that create the most interest for me right now.
What is the role of an artist in the community?
What is the role of an artist on the street that you live on?
These are the questions that I'm interested in right now.
Upcoming ideas that are baking my noodle: A bike donation project to bring to orphanages in Mexico, more events in the park, a bicycle operated spin-art machine, more burritos to give to the homeless, a warehouse/space in a neighborhood.
Anyways, the Bro Futurists blog got a slight update today (artists listed on the left side).

Veg ass
It's a weird place.
It really does feel like Disneyland for adults.
Stayed at the Palazzo which was really nice. (it blocks the sun from the Wynn's pool - apparently they're enemies)
Here's a view from the Foundation Room at the top of the Mandalay Bay (above).
I'm happy to be back; can't wait to get in the studio tonight and start making stuff again.
Highlight of the week: Randomly calling Dave Tosti and finding out he was in Vegas too - and getting to hang out a little bit (he was their for work too).
Oh, and the Champion ice sculpture for our company party was pretty cool too (below)

Off to Vegas
I'm heading to the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas this week.
I'm not bringing my computer, but I'll have plenty of pics to add at the end of the week.
Have a good week.

That's a DOLLAR!
P.S. that fish tank is gross, I need to clean it. I put 20 fish in it one day as a prank, but they've all survived for about 5 months now. Resilient little golden bastards.
Score!
It's super clean, I just need to find a seat for it. An all black Brooks Saddle
or something.

Ahh.. the joys of instant photo-documentation
Been crankin' out work hard in the studio these days, as it is the last month I have studio space. Here's some sneak peaks at pieces I'm working on now. And my studio is a mess!

This is why I got a van! Just picked up a load of junk from Property Room online auction house. 7 bikes and one Wooden Dingy! - $100
I'm building a bike rack out of old bikes for The Lab in Costa Mesa; thus, I needed some supplies. Scored a radical 1950's Murray in the lot too!
Don't ask me what I'm using the Dingy for - there's a hint on the bottom pic for the discerning eye!
Can you see the grasshopper in this picture below?
Heather and I spent the other night drafting up the floor plan for our wedding reception site. Color coded and everything! It was fun. 113 Days left! Can't wait

I won a hockey scholarship!!!
Just when I was beginning to think I was the only Eric Trine in the world, I found out that the other Eric Trine just won a hockey scholarship! Ay yi yi! Hopefully there are only two of us. Then we could joust to the death (with hockey sticks).
